A discretionary employer contribution to employees' retirement accounts, typically calculated as a percentage of compensation. Unlike matching contributions, profit-sharing doesn't require employee deferrals. The employer decides each year whether and how much to contribute. In a Solo 401(k), profit-sharing allows you to contribute up to 25% of compensation (20% for sole proprietors) as the employer.
