Spousal IRA

Account Types

A rule that allows a working spouse to contribute to an IRA on behalf of a non-working or lower-earning spouse, as long as the working spouse has enough earned income to cover both contributions. This enables households to maximize retirement savings even when one spouse has little or no income. The same annual contribution limits and rules apply as regular IRAs.
