Cliff Vesting

Vesting

A vesting schedule where an employee becomes 100% owner of employer contributions all at once after completing a specified period of service (typically 3 years for 401(k) plans). Before reaching the cliff, the employee owns 0% of employer contributions; after, they own 100%. This differs from graded vesting, which grants ownership gradually over time.
