Prohibited Transaction

An illegal use of retirement plan assets that involves self-dealing or conflicts of interest between the plan and a disqualified person (such as the plan owner, fiduciaries, or family members). Examples include borrowing from the plan for personal use, selling property to the plan, or using plan assets to benefit a disqualified person. Prohibited transactions can result in severe tax penalties and plan disqualification.
